| Whoops! |
[Mar. 10th, 2010|01:17 pm] |
I forgot to update last week, so here are the last two weeks of Floorball League updates.
Firstly, starting the new Spring League, they completely gutted our offense. Apparently, going 2-2-2 and winning the league by winning two shootouts by one goal each just proved us to be the '27 Yankees.
So we lost our entire offense except for RJ. Mark D., Luke, and Russell were all shipped to the Green team in exchange for Mars, David and Brian. Brandon went to the ASA House team, which was understandable since he's an ASA employee and they're all home-grown players.
But yeah, basically we had all of our speed and scoring yanked out from under us and had to start from scratch on offense.
We also lost Stephan, but he was such a part-timer that really didn't matter.
A few other additions: TJ (RJ's friend, who is pretty damn decent), Kevin for one game before being traded for Mazzy, and Adrienne (David's girlfriend).
The league expanded to 6 teams, but the talent already in the league didn't get diluted much at all, since both new teams were made up almost entirely of new players.
Anyway, our first game was against the Orange Team.
They were short a few players and were generally moving pretty slowly, and Blue got off to a quick start.
An RJ hat trick and a TJ goal staked us to a 4-0 lead before a late mistake gave Adrian a wrap-around goal to break up the shutout. Final score 4-1, Blue.
The second game was against Conquest, one of the two new teams. Conquest's first game was awful. They didn't have any subs, and were entirely made up of new players to floorball (they're a bunch of roller hockey players by trade) with the exception of their goalie Brandee, so they got spanked. The league commissioners decided to give them a few veteran players to help out, so they got Shooter and Tyler.
Things got off to a rocky start when the refs blew the whistle prematurely on a stickcheck against Conquest and negated a Blue Team goal. RJ struck again quickly though to make it 1-0. A David goal staked us to a 2-0 lead, but a turnover right to Shooter in the slot made it 2-1. Another Blue goal by David proved to be the eventual game-winner, despite Conquest scoring another goal to make it close in the 2nd half. A few semi-close calls, but the Blue defense stood strong against their all out assualt on the goal at the end of the game.
So Blue sits at 2-0 so far in the league, with a serious test against the Green Team coming up this Sunday without Big Lee in goal for us since he'll be out of town. |

| Floorball Championship! |
[Feb. 15th, 2010|01:35 pm] |
Last night was the night. After reffing the consolation game (another wild game that ended in a shootout), the championship game started. We were without Big Lee, our usual goalie, so Luke, one of our better forwards was in net for us taking his place.
Blue got off to a hot start, scoring two early goals. Green answered back with two of their own though, and the game was tied at halftime.
In the second half, Green jumped out to a 3-2 lead early, and Blue answered again to tie it about 8 minutes in. Green responded though, and scored to re-take the lead with about 10 minutes left in the half. Blue answered the bell again with about 5 minutes to play though, knotting the score at 4. Despite some furious scrambles for the ball and a lot of scoring chances, regulation time ended in a tie, so off ot another shootout we went.
I was pretty apprehensive about Luke as our goalie in a shootout, since Luke has virtually no experience in shootout scenarios (this is the first season we did a shootout to decide the winners), but he answered the bell in a big way. He stonewalled all 3 of the Green team's attempts while Brandon scored on our first attempt in what eventually was the game-winning shootout goal. Final score in the shootout: 1-0, Blue Team!
One week off and we go right back at it, Spring League signups are going on right now.
The not really coveted Morris Trophy:

| Floorball! |
[Feb. 1st, 2010|11:03 am] |
Last night was the semi-final round of the Austin Floorball League. I reffed the first game, which was Orange vs. Green. It was tied at 4 after regulation, which had never happened in a playoff game before. Myself and Jeff, the other ref for that game and one of the league's co-founders/organizers huddled and decided a 5 a side shootout was going to decide who advanced to the finals. The shootout was pretty intense, with one goal disallowed because the shooter pulled the ball back before scoring. It all came down to the last shooter on the Green team, Peter, shooting with the score knotted at 2 goals each. If he made it, Green won. If he missed, we'd have to rehuddle and figure out what to do for over-overtime.
A quick aside, Peter is probably the best stick-handler/scorer in our league, and he's the kind of guy that, in a one on one situation, will score about 95 percent of the time. Well, Peter just charged in and didn't really try and make a move, and Kub, the Orange goalie, stonewalled him at the top of the goalie crease.
So we re-huddled.
And after 5 minutes of deliberation with the captains, decided that each team captain would pick one player at a time to go. The overriding issue that made things not-so-clear-cut was that the Orange team only had 6 total players not counting their goalie. The Green team had about 11 total players.
Anyway, Lee, the Orange team goalie, stopped Adrian's attempt. Peter went first for the Green team, and didn't disappoint this time. Green wins.
So I quickly ditched the ref equipment and threw on my Blue jersey to take on our rivals, the Red team. It was a really great game, high intensity and very fast paced. Red scored first. The refs blew a goal we scored, saying it hit the crossbar when it obviously hit the ne, but we scored pretty quickly after that to knot it at one. Red scored again to take the lead, but with about 6 minutes left in the 2nd half, we tied it up again.
There was a mad scramble for a rebound after Big Lee made a great save with about a minute and a half left in the game, but the Blue defense came to his rescue and cleared the ball before Red could tap it in.
The clock expired with the score tied, so off to a shootout we went again.
Lucky for everyone, we'd already hashed out the details on what to do if there was a tie at the end of regulation the game before, so I picked our 5 shooters and off we went.
Big Lee was a monster in the shootout, stonewalling all 4 of Red's attempts. RJ went first for us and scored, and Brandon netted his attempt from the 4 spot in the shootout, giving us a 2-0 lead with only one shooter left for Red. We win!
We're off to the finals in 2 weeks (skipping a week for Superbowl Sunday) to play the Green team for the League Championship.
All in all, it was an exhausting game. My ankle is super sore, and my back and shoulders are pretty tight too, but it was totally worth it.
I'm thinking I may just start using this a place to describe some of my sporting events, which will make me much more active on here. Not that anyone reads it anyway, but hey, it's nice to have a place to dump my brains out. |

| So familiar... I'm back here and posting something before i vanish for 6 months again. |
[Jan. 26th, 2010|02:25 pm] |
So, yeah. 2010. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?
Another year gone by, and already almost a month through it. The time is FLYING these days, and I hate it. My life is in a nice comfortable rut right now, and for the most part I like it.
My job isn't great, but at least I've got a steady job that lets me slack off. I've got a GREAT group of friends. I enjoy most of the activities I do, and the people I do them with.
It is definitely hard to complain too much, so I won't. I'm waiting until summer gets here for something that I hope is going to be special. Something that could be life changing, could be heart-breaking, or could just be another chapter in the fucked up book that is my life story (which I'm either going to call 'The Questions Were Loaded, and So Was I' or 'The 30 Year Old Fratboy's Guide to Life, Love and the Persuit of Beer Pong' as suggested by my friend Vikki).
I really want to write here more often, but I just forget about it constantly. It doesn't matter anyway, since nobody ever looks at this thing, but it is nice to just kind of dump whats in my head on to virtual paper occasionally.
Anyway, if you ARE reading this and actually know me and don't know about it: Saturday the 13th of Feb. My Place. Toga Party for my birthday. It's going to be ridiculous. Hope to see you there.
Until I remember about this place in a few months, adios folks. |

| Almost Christmas |
[Dec. 23rd, 2008|02:40 pm] |
Man, time is flying lately.
It's a few days til Christmas, and as usual I'm not even close to do shopping. I = slacker. Which isn't news, I know.
I love Christmas and all, but god, I hate shopping for presents. It's such a hassle.
I'm not writing a long entry or anything, not that anyone reads this at all anyway.
But hey, if you ARE reading this, odds are that I miss talking to you a lot right now. |

Ahoyhoy!
Yeah, I suck at this whole timely blogging thing.
So, Halloween just came and went, and we had a pretty awesome party at our place. We probably had like 30ish people in and out, maybe more (forgive me for not knowing the numbers, I explain in a minute). I had a pretty serious mix of all my friends and a few of my roommates' friends show up. The highlights of the night: Lee showing up dressed as a Leprechaun as I suggested jokingly a few days before, and busting out the fighting Irish pose My friend Erica showing up as a Playboy Bunny complete with garters and stockings and such, and then scandalously showing the world her underwear while playing beerpong. Christine as Pippi Longstocking, completely with crazy floral wire hair arrangements. And lastly, Kent dressed as the King of Rock n' Roll, complete slightly too tight gold jumpsuit.
Overall, it was a great night.
As always happens at every event I throw, beerpong eventually broke out. I rocked to an 11-1 record. 5-1 with Dave (who is horrible when girls are talking to him while he is playing), and then 6-0 with "E", which is short for Elizabeth, another good friend of mine. I was on FIRE all night long, which was nice. I made all 11 last cups, and hit 2 to send the game we lost to overtime in rebuttal.
Anyway, that's all I've got. Until a few months from now when I feel inspired enough to write something else! |

| Well, it's done. |
[Aug. 27th, 2008|07:17 pm] |
So, I moved out. I'm all moved in to my new place. It's actually pretty awesome. Got a nice back yard, a kick ass back deck/patio, and the carpet almost looks like shag Astroturf.
But yeah, its weird not being able to go outside any time night or day and having something going on and/or someone to talk to.
I'm starting to plan my house-warming party. That should be a good time. All my retarded friends in one place. |

| Almost... |
[Jul. 31st, 2008|06:33 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | weird | ] | Well, the time that I've been dreading for 6 years is finally arriving. I'm moving out of the Frat House and headed in to domestic living. I've got two roommates, Sean and Travis, and we're in the process of leasing a 3 bedroom house somewhere in Austin.
I'm excited, nervous, and not really sure what to think. I don't want to leave the comfort of Fraternityville, but I think it's time.
So away I go, flying in to the delicate shades of pink and blue in the sunset, trailing behind me a string of Keystone Lite cans, ping pong balls, and red plastic cups.
Fly Away, old birdie. |

| There is something seriously wrong with me... |
[Apr. 7th, 2008|04:15 pm] |
I can't stop listening to 80s Music the last few weeks.
Its horrifyingly embarassing. I'm trying to remedy the situation, but every time I think that listening to some crappy 80s music will knock it out of my brain, it just digs in a little deeper.
I bet I've listened to The Power of Love 500 times in the last 2 weeks...
